Should Cell Phones Be Allowed in School?

Dear Editor,

Should cell phones be allowed in school? Well, it is true that they generate an unnecessary distraction, and cell phones have been known to be used for cheating. With the rise of advanced cell phones, all of the students can go on the internet and legitimately quest for test answers. Many students are also texting during class, which causes them to miss vital facts during a class. If a pupil forgets to turn their phone to silent, and it rings, it causes an unnecessary disruption in class. It wastes indispensable teaching time by production the instructor having to take away the phone.

During school hours, the pupil should be totally focused on each and every class. Many schools have a phone in each class. If an emergency arises, people can be legitimately contacted via the phone. If a situation arises, and a parent needs to feel their child, they can just call the office, and be transferred to the student's current class. It takes less than 30 seconds! If a person's cell phone goes off, it creates a disruption. All of a sudden, the instructor has to get the phone, put it on the desk, and most students start talking. Back in the day, maybe 20 years ago, there weren't even cell phones. Many people have lived straight through that, just fine. We're no different, and if people could live without cell phones before, we legitimately can too.

There are now many advanced cell phones that can do even more than text messaging. A great example is the BlackBerry; with it, you can go on the internet anywhere there's a cell phone signal, which is practically anywhere now. Going on the internet causes even more problems with cheating. BlackBerries now have a full sized keyboard, and you can legitimately go on Google and type in the question. Voila: within seconds, it gives you the answer. Once again, cheating is so easy on these devices. There's no interaction involved, and it's hard for teachers to catch them. BlackBerries are not out of reach for consumers anymore, they're now free. It's now becoming easier and easier to cheat in class, with cell phones.

Cell phones are becoming more and more advanced. They are practically like mini computers now. They can generate text messages for fast communication; you don't even have to say a word. Text messaging has become a big problem. I have seen many students text during class with friends. It disrupts the studying process. These are the people with the most questions at the end of an assignment. They're not listening at all, and the rest of the class has to wait for the instructor to construe it again. Other more serious matter is that text messaging can be used legitimately for cheating. Students can text each other in class, and ask questions such as "What's the answer to number 2?" Since you don't have to whisper, or turn around, it's hard for teachers to know if they're cheating or not.

With practically every cell phone having the potential of taking pictures, or recording videos, it can become a problem. There are many things you can do with this capability. You can take unlawful pictures of people. For example, whatever can just run into a locker room, and take pictures of people, or even worse a video. With the rise of YouTube, and other beloved video sharing services, it can legitimately be uploaded onto the web, for everyone to see. It creates a question with privacy of students. I legitimately wouldn't want a video of me all over the web for everyone to see what happened.

As you can see, cell phones cause chaos, and many problems. Text messaging distracts the student's during school. All they want to do is just talk to their friends. Worse, it makes it an easy cheating expedient for students. With the rise of advanced cell phones, and Google, the internet is one click away. They can quest for all the answers to the test easily. It creates Other expedient that students can cheat with. If parents need to feel the student, they can just call the student, and legitimately be transferred in less than 30 seconds. There is no need for them to call the student, and to distract the whole class. Just think about it, if we can live without them before, why can't we now?
